Where and How to Get Electric Drum Kits Cheap

By: Melissa Domotor

The individual components you can add to your drum kit are of a much higher quality these days, and you can bet they’d make quite a hole in your pocket if you’re not prepared. That’s why you need to know a few things before setting out to buy electric drum sets. This article aims to show you how you can get electric drum kits cheap.

History of Drum Kits

When drum kits were first created and introduced in the United States of America, they were originally referred to as trap sets. Early sets were mainly made up of a snare drum, a bass drum, a pair of cymbals, and a single or a pair of tom-toms. These were the main components of the most basic drum kit back in the day – and these are still the main components that drummers of today use. Many playing styles, such as jazz and blues, are best interpreted using drums because they require nothing more than the said components.

It was the rock and roll era of the Seventies that really put a spin on the basic drum kit. A number of individual components were suddenly introduced, apart from the floor tom that made its way to drum kits everywhere before the Seventies came. Massive drum sets that were heavily favored by rock bands, which at the time invaded the country’s music scene, now included harmonically tuned tom-toms, plus a wide range of percussion instruments.

Where to Get Cheap Drum Kits

But even with these improvements, the bottom line is that drum kits don’t hold up as well as electric guitars do. This means that vintage drum kits are great for collecting, not actually playing. With this in mind, you can stay away from the trap of sellers who put a higher price tag on vintage drum sets.

Today, you can find a number of high-quality, pre-configured electric drum kits cheap from different manufacturers, and many of them are being sold online. It is highly recommended though that you personally check out the set of your fancy before making a decision. Like all musicians, drummers need to make a connection with their instrument before they can make beautiful music with it. If the connection is not there, or if you find some form of damage, then you can move on and try another one. Also, try to haggle because many sellers are relying on collections for income.

To get electric drum kits cheap, visit e-Bay, Amazon, and Smarter; novelty sites like musiciansbyline.com and Kodmusic.com also have a lot to offer. For more information on electric drums, check out our article on electric drum set.
